Oh fuck you too Pokemon

So I'm sure I'm not the only one wicked excited about Heart Gold/Soul Silver... well, okay, I know I don't post often so I'm sure this is WHOA FRIENDSLIST SURPRIAZ for ~~some~~ all of you, but I'm somewhat annoyed now and want to whine to the big open void that is the internets. So here I go.

One of the things I was particularly excited about was the PokeWalker. Not only did I absolutely LOVE the Pokemon Pikachu that came with the original Gold and Silver games (easiest digital pet to care for EVER!) but from the sounds of it PokeWalker is about a million times the awesome, allowing you to raise the pokemon you send to it while at the same time collecting rare items and pokemon you can transfer to your actual game! Freakin' awesome!

Now, there's several areas in the Walker that are unlockable via events, one of them being the Yellow Forest, which is full of nothing but Pikachu. Some of these have special attacks. Including Surf and Fly. This area was given out via event fairly soon after the Japanese release of the games, IIRC, so I was like "Yes! Hopefully they'll do the same thing for North America, and I can catch a Surfachu for my team and not have to put up with too many water-types! :D Take THAT, Whirlpool!" God I hate that HM. Yeah, I know, I don't use HM slaves. Instead I distribute the moves around my team - my teams are usually made up of pokemon that I both adore and that can make use of all the necessary HMs while still kicking ass and being appropriately balanced. Recently, I also try to use pokemon that I haven't used before, because much as I love repetition I DO get sick of, oh, having a Lanturn on my team for every single game since the original G/S/C. God fuck it. I love Lanturn, but seriously...

Anyway, my hopes were this:

-Grind Pokewalker until I find a male Surfachu. Nickname, transfer to game, in whatever order that's allowed.
-Evolve to Raichu at an appropriate level.
-Hooray, I have a Surfing version of my FAVORITE POKEMON, and a team full of nostalgia and win! :D

My prospective team was thus:

Typhlosion
Raichu
Espeon
Skarmory (getting Heart Gold first, but nothing breeding one in Diamond and trading the egg can't solve.)
Dragonite
Gengar

Yep, no Water-types whatsoever. There's a lot of really cool ones, but like I said, I'm sick of 'em. Plus I was thinking of pokemon that I used a lot back in R/B/Y/G/S/C, and that I haven't used in a loooong time since. Dragonair/ite can handle Whirlpool and Waterfall just fine and still have a few other kickass attacks in there as well. Cyndaquil is my favorite of the Johto starters, and I want to stay true to that for my HG run. Skarmory was one of my GSC staples, and is a really awesome pokemon that I haven't used in forever. Plus, awesome flyer, and since I have to breed it anyway I can take the opportunity to breed Drill Peck onto it. Espeon is super-nostalgic, since I used to have one from my first Gold run ever (now long lost thanks to battery death, sob) who randomly had stats like WHOA and seriously kicked everything's ass. Gengar is a RBY throwback that I haven't used since my original Red/Yellow runs.

And Raichu, my Raichu, Skythe. As long as he's a dude and I can nickname him (ie native to whatever game I'm playing; I can't stand trade EXP and pokemons' stat screens taunting me with how they aren't really mine), I'm happy, and that's really not too much to ask, I think. (Despite the tendency of the Pikachu line to be 75% female. I am stubborn and will search until I find one dammit.)

I thought this would make the perfect opportunity to construct the most perfectly nostalgic team without sacrificing too much, so I could make the most out of the remake of my favorite Pokemon generation.

Then I looked at Serebii.net's new PokeWalker catching guide.

Is the Surfachu seriously always female. FUCK.

Okay, okay, so it's not exactly the end of the world. I don't even know if PokeWalker pokemon are actually considered "traded," nor do I know if they are nicknamable, or if the special Pikachus are even able to evolve. (Probably yes, but you never know.) Any of these would also dash my hopes across the cold, sharpened stones of reality, and some of them are also fairly likely, knowing the series.

But goddammit, I had the team all set up. >: And my heart aches to think that I might end up having to swap say, Gengar out for Lapras. I like Lapras okay, but it AND Dragonair on the same team is just a bit too much ~*~GRACEFUL PRETTY SWANNECKED SEA DRAGON~*~ in one place for me. I suppose I could always give Nidoking/queen a shot instead, as I've heard they're pretty badass pokemon, but... sigh. >: They're not really on my favorites list. Kabutops and Quagsire are both possibilities too, and those I actually like, but...

Dammit, I wanted to use that team! Gengar! D:

So it took like twenty minutes this morning for the memory of what the hell I dreamed about last night anyway to kick in, but good lord. Only MY subconscious would decide that Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro and Problem Sleuth belong in the same dream clip, I'm telling you. >_>;

I guess Neuro doesn't like competition much or something. Eh, he was pretty OOC in the dream anyway.

I always turn my computer off BEFORE remembering that I wanted to post about something. *headdesk* I swear that's half the problem...

ANYWAY went to the ol' Game Exchange again today, had another awesome chat with the dude who works there Sundays. (He's like older than my dad, but he loves games and has very similar tastes to mine. o3o) Haul of the encounter came out to:

-MediEvil II (hellz yeah!)
-Lufia and the Fortress of Doom (I've had Lufia II for a while now but not this. Which is... both weird and fitting, since II is actually the prequel...)
- Kid Chameleon (s-shut up, it looked like the eptiome of dorky 90's games okay I HAD to buy it!)
-Phantasy Star II
-Kirby's Avalanche BOXED, COMPLETE AND SEALED wooooo! It has Kirby and Dedede playing with puyos on the box guys it's adorable :D

I almost got another copy of Silhouette Mirage too... they had a copy that was the disc art of Hal, and I have the Megido disc! Collector... urges... rising... but I wound up not getting it for lack of money. >: I'm already gonna be short for picking up that new Devil Summoner game this week, now... and anyway now someone else can own and play the awesomeness that is Silhouette Mirage, ahaha.

Incidentally, I've had that old Dinotopia PC game on my brain all day. Dunno why, just have. I miss it! I have the strategy guide and everything so its devilish point-and-click ways are not so difficult to navigate to me, but like... I ALMOST beat it once a million years ago. ALMOST. I would have, even, except one of the characters got FRICKIN' STUCK on a ladder at the VERY END of the game and prevented me from proceeding. Aksdhglakhskldhfks! I should see if it's possible to beat it into working on something. >_>; I've got a desktop with Vista and a mostly-dead laptop guys, yeah, that'll work REAL well...

My sis has been hogging my PS3 because apparently I was right thinking she would like Folklore. >_>; But on the upside I've been playing WoW with her again, yay! She and a friend of hers started some new Tauren chars on my server, so I started a character to play alongside them with - an undead warlock.

Yes, I know, I'm insane. But I REALLY wanted an undead warlock. I-it's not THAT bad trekking between Tirisfal Glades and Mulgore all the time... although I somehow wound up several levels above them, whoops. >_>; Bad Io.

Regardless, I'm tickled pink by the fact that I'm a freakin' undead warlock of all things hanging out with a Tauren hunter and a shaman and doing all the Tauren low-level quests. I even got an appropriate haircut. HIPPIE ZOMBIE WARLOCK XD;;;;

...yeah okay I'm getting my ass to bed now.

I know I'm just sorta babbling to myself here, but...

It never fails. It absolutely 100% tried-and-true never, ever fails.

I'm playing some awesome game where my character has some sort of super mode. Through the whole level I'm building the gauge for super mode, telling myself "Okay, now when it MATTERS, don't forget you have super mode! Don't forget, don't forget, don't forget!" And then I get to the boss. And then I'm all "OMG OMG FIGURE OUT ITS ATTACK PATTERN OH CRAP THAT HURT WAIT I THINK I KNOW ITS WEAKNESS" and... I completely forget about super mode.

And then I JUST BARELY win, and I'm all "Whoa, that was rough!" and THEN I remember about super mode.

...

*headdesk* EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. How the fuck did I ever manage to beat DMC guys srsly.

So yesterday I picked up MadWorld, Avalon Code, and, because it was on the shelf and taunting me and I seem to have a weak spot the size of Manhattan for the series, Phantasy Star Portable.

No, I guess I couldn't just wait for Zero and yes I know I didn't like PSU that much. Shut up it has Casts and I don't have to play through 20935780293 hours of story before getting to make my own goddamn character. >:

I reserved Zero while I was there though. :D

ANYWAY. I haven't played MadWorld yet because lol RPGs are shinier. So on the other two.

Avalon Code is an RPG in which the world is ending soon, so the protagonist (a boy or girl at the choice of the player) is chosen to use the Book of Prophecy to record things about the current world and shape the new world that will be made in its place. The Book (read: menu) grants the player the ability to view and alter the essences (codes) that make up things in the world. Toss fire codes onto a sword to gain an elemental attack, remove a code for sickness from a person to heal them, combine codes for interesting effects, yada yada. You're not quite god, but you're pretty damn close.

Avalon Code's code system is as shiny as expected. What's even shinier than expected is one of my favorite things to see in any RPG evar - MASSIVE COLLECTIONS!!! :D :D :D See this is why obsessive-compulsive tendencies plus slight perfectionism plus video games is ~~awesome~~ bad. Because give me 20938460927093470569 items/monsters/characters/data blurbs to collect and I WILL GO NUTS.

Only... the game's kinda sloppily executed, really. The concept and setup of messing with the codes that make up everything in the world (and the style in which the book menu is set up) are fantastic. Collecting stuff is fantastic. Not as many things are scannable as I initially thought would be, but what's there is nonetheless ample. Only... well, every single area in the game (as in screen, so this comes down to A LOT) has a number of areas on it that are examinable, just like any other RPG ever. Only here, you're rewarded points for pressing A at things, kinda like in Blue Dragon. Remember how much I loved that feature in Blue Dragon?

Well, at least in BD the things you could push A at are OBVIOUS. In Avalon Code? Notsomuch. Sure the game tracks your progress for these points and will even tell you how many examinable areas are left on a screen, but in complete seriousness, RANDOM PATCH OF PERFECTLY NORMAL GROUND IN THE MIDDLE OF A SCREEN MADE OF 95% THAT TYPE OF PERFECTLY NORMAL GROUND can easily be an examinable spot. WAT. The examinable areas are finicky to boot; some of them require you to press A when standing at THIS EXACT SPOT and if you're one pixel off, no dice. (or so it seems to me anyway. >|) STRATEGY GUIDE PLZ there's no way in hell even I'm gonna run through each screen pressing A on each and every goddamn spot just to beef up my page points.

The battle system's pretty okay (action-based, basic buttonmashing with easy-to-execute specials/magic thrown in) until you realize a few things. Like how your character is way too slow to recover from doing pretty much anything (even and especially the dodge-roll maneuver) and how while enemies have numerical hit points, you have a number-of-hits system. DOES NOT MIX. >( Seriously. It's not fair that Monster X can have 1500 hit points but I die after five hits no matter what. Even given the ability to yoink an enemy's data and mess with it until their stats are nerfed in the middle of battle, this is a pain!

Also so far there appear to be no holdable healing items. Well, there's bread and stuff that you can scan and record, but it only seems to be there to offer you its codes. (Given, I haven't tried tapping the item itself yet, which is how you use useable items. So perhaps I should try the obvious first. Given that recorded items never vanish from your book, I'm guessing it would cost me MP just like manifesting items to give to NPCs does. And I have a pathetic amount of MP.) Anyway, regardless of this. There are insta-use healing items to be found by breaking open objects in dungeons, but said breakables are scarce. What the game wants you to do is gain healing items by using a special move to repeatedly bounce an enemy until they fly high enough to enter the stratosphere and explode for... no adequately explored reason, but hey, you can explode things, cool.

What's not cool: you don't get the healing items unless you successfully bounce them to said point of explosion. You bounce them a little higher each hit, and it's a timing game. With a wildly zooming in and out camera. Arrrrrrrrrrrrgh. Enemies NEVER drop anything if you just defeat them normally either; this is the ONLY way to get heals when you're stranded without breakables or an inn!

Also dungeons are really just series of rooms with timed minigames/challenges in each one. Um, I have nothing against puzzles in dungeons, but can this be just a bit less gimmicky, plz? It made sense with the training dude's minidungeon; that was some guy attempting to train you. It doesn't make sense in Random Cave Full of Monsters.

By the way, said training dude, the guy who's teaching the main character swordsmanship from your home town? Yeah. He's totally Luxord, I swear to god. XD Only he's a weird AU Luxord from Hyrule because he totally teaches you Link's spin attack. THIS IS A HILARIOUS COMBINATION AND IT'S ONLY MORE HILARIOUS WHEN THE PROTAGONIST IS ZOMGIMPRESSED! BY IT.

By far the sloppiest, most grave error the game makes, however, is its complete and utter failure to explain certain key mechanics and abilities to you. When you're thrown into your very first battle, no one even mentions what the freakin' attack button is, leaving me utterly confused as to why neither A nor B was doing anything. (X and Y are the attack buttons, each controlling one hand. You wield a sword in each hand, which IS freakin' awesome, btw.) This is not good. >: Other things that no one told me how to do but I figured out on my own: Dodge rolling (L or R), pushing and pulling blocks (and only CERTAIN blocks, mind you, press and hold A at one side and use the d-pad to move), jumping up and grabbing small ledges (just move towards the ledge), actually executing the special attack (hold down an attack button until it charges, then release), the fact that you can cause special item recipes to appear by completing the data search on certain areas. It's only made worse by the fact that in many of these cases, the game TELLS you to do these things (omg gaiz bonus points in this room if you dodge roll five times!) but NEVER SO MUCH AS GIVES YOU A HINT AS TO HOW. Especially sinful in that it will, say, mention you can get bonus points for doing X in a room you're in BEFORE YOU EVEN ARE ABLE TO DO X. And it leads you on by explaining SOME things (like how to cast magic and use the code system) and then totally leaving you hanging on these others! ASdkfgjlaskdhfgkljsldkj KILL. If I hadn't played 20935702938029 RPGs before this one, I wouldn't have had the first clue as to how to do any of those! It only came natural because I AM such a nut for the genre! I also suspect there's some sort of jump (or wtfever, who even knows) function that I'm totally missing, because I came across a room with spiked pits I couldn't get over. :|

Anyway how about some more positive stuff now. This game does have a romance feature where you can increase your affection with various characters and eventually enter a relationship with one of them. (No gay options though, from what it sounds like, booo. Oh well. XD) From what the manual tells me (because I totally only read the parts that sounded interesting... really, the manual should NOT be a requirement to play the game properly.) it even sounds like you can do this with one of the four elemental guardian spirits who come with the Book! :D Human/nonhuman relationships are totally my thing so this is AWESOME.
Let's talk about the spirits for a second. They're on the game case's art, and I immediately recognized them as some sort of elemental spirits. There's two guys and two girls, naturally, and the first three - fire, forest, water/ice - are pretty obvious as to what their elements are. (I don't think I ever saw a subtle fire-elemental though, lol.) But the last... well, they're all in this spiffy wallpaper here, check it out. I thought maybe he was Earth or Wind or something, whatever. But my first reaction to looking at them was to zero right in on that mystery-elemental and be all "OH HAY I LIKE HIM. 8D HE'S KINDA HOT."

...guess what. He's Lightning.

Yeeeeeeeeeeah. I homed in on my favorite element evar once again without even knowing it. orz BUT HEY AWESOME. Too bad it sounds like he's the last you acquire, but at least I have the sassy fire spirit and his snarking in the meantime. <3

...oh hey it just occurred to me that maybe having elements on the brain is why I had that crazy Digital Devil Saga dream last night. Derpaderp.

ANYWAY tl;dr, Avalon Code is annoyingly rough around the edges, but still worth playing. Now, about finding that strategy guide...

Oh, and I turned on PS...P (har har, I see what u did thar, Sega) and messed with the character creation for like an hour, then got frustrated by my own indecisiveness and shut it off. XD; WAT CHARACTER SHOULD I MAEK, GAIZ? >:

So guess what? I have no power! :D And no idea when I'll get it back! (Typing from my dad's workplace right now; we all came down cause he has showers.)

Okay, okay. Guys. I have something I absolutely MUST ask you.

Here is how I make scrambled eggs:
-Crack X number of eggs into an appropriately-sized bowl, depending on how many people you're feeding and how voracious they are. Poke at any embryos you find in morbid fascination, but leave them in there for the ~~lulz~~ protein.

-Break egg yolks and stir with a fork until more or less mixed. Forks make a niftier sound against the side of a bowl than spoons.

-Add milk and half & half in random amounts according to whim. Use more milk than half & half, and don't let it get too white. Pale yellow is fine. Stir moar.

-Add salt and pepper in random amounts according to whim. Stir even moar.

-Stir yet more just for the hell of it.

-Put butter or olive oil on the bottom of an appropriately-sized frying pan, according to how healthy you're feeling. Let melt or heat so that it covers the entire bottom of the pan. Burner should be low-ish for this.

-Crank the heat up a bit and pour the egg mixture in. Stir at it obsessive-compulsively with a spatula. Marvel at the power of science when it starts to turn solid.

-Keep stirring, making sure nothing stays stuck to the bottom long enough to brown. Scrape it up in big chunks for maximum fluffiness.

-Once there is only a tiny bit of moistness left in the bottom, turn off the heat and serve with toast and KETCHUP!

Apparently, a friend of mine thinks this is TOTALLY WEIRD. Milk!? Ketchup!? What the hell? T'hell with it, this is the only way I will eat scrambled eggs! When he makes 'em, they're this wet, heavy, gooey spongelike mass of I-don't-know-what, and I really don't wanna put something like that in my mouth. D: AND MINE ARE GOOD WITH KETCHUP, DAMMIT.

I'm told my way is some weird French-Canuk thing, which well... my family is mostly French-Canadian, hurr hurr. But it was interesting to see how shocked he was by my methods, and how alien it was to him. How 'bout you guys? Crazy bizarre or perfectly normal? You'd think such a simple food would be pretty universal, huh...

I live! I LIIIIIVE! Well, okay, I've been talked into actually making an attempt to use LJ. Again. Some. I guess. But aside from that, I actually DO have stuff to talk about that isn't retarded angsty crap, thank god. (This bloody journal needs a makeover.)

Okay. So. I know it's already midweek, but last weekend I took a semi-spontaneous 7-hour drive with Aaddrick up to visit an old high school friend. We partied, played Brawl, I got to drool over Aaddrick's copy of Crisis Core... yadda yadda. Massive social things aren't really my... uh... thing, but I met a few really cool people there so all was good even though loud drunken voices combined with Rock Band with the volume turned up high enough to drown out a rocket launch makes for a very headachy Io. There was this somewhat spazzy gamer dude I talked to a bunch who managed to impress me by a) recognizing almost every character I'd drawn in my sketchbook and b) knowing what Star Control is. He was awesome and in true Io fashion I've forgotton his name. GO ME! :D; Also, Aaddrick and Nam both get very huggy when drunk. It's cute.

(I still kinda regret not asking if I could do the vocal part for Still Alive on Rock Band though...)

Regardless, that's not the awesome part.

The awesome part is that the next day, we all went out to see the local shops. By that I mean one of the largest tabletop gaming stores in the country and the greatest anime store I've ever been in. Um, not that I've particularly been in a store solely for anime stuff before... not counting convention vendors... BUT THAT'S BESIDE THE POINT.

Because the point is that THEY HAD A MELTY BLOOD ACT CADENZA MACHINE. SERIOUSLY. MELTY BLOOD! Melty Bloooood! Hahaha, that's like the coolest name ever. Melty Blood. Someone actually knew what it was and I learned that it happens to be based on an anime... thing that I've heard of before but knew nothing about beyond having heard the name floating around. THAT WAS CONVOLUTED HOORAY. *cough* Anyway, though Melty Blood is just something I stumbled across on YouTube recently that I knew little else about, I still thought it looked awesome, and the double-awesome is that my first time playing it was on an actual honest-to-god arcade machine! Best fifty cents ever spent. EVER.

But god I hate arcade controls. My wrist hurt after one round of random button-mashing. :D; I have tiny little hands people; they can't reach these bigass, widely-spaced arcade buttons with much ease! Anyway, I've since downloaded Act Cadenza Ver B, which is the PC version. And I have a controller for my PC. So all is well. |3 ~<3

As for the anime shop, seeing that arcade machine set my obsession meter off like whoa, and they also happened to have a few Melty Blood figures. I bought one of each of what they had, and it made me happy. (No guy characters though... never any guy characters... but I got Len! I like her!) I also grabbed a DVD I've been looking for - one of those two-episode trailer animes that never made it into actual series production. I tend to like those, for some reason... the one I found's called Gestalt, and it is a laugh riot. MAGIC WHEAT. BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA oh man that was an in-joke at the high school anime club for so long. :D

I also found a Stafy plush! They had him incorrectly marked as a "Mario Party Star." >: But I recognize you Stafy! Also you are sinfully adorable. I grabbed an Evangelion gashapon set as well... I normally avoid Eva stuff because it's all nothing but Rei and Asuka in ridiculous outfits and even more ridiculous poses, but this set actually - gasp! - had Kaworu and Shinji in it! So they're sitting (rather close together, hee) on my gaming TV while the rest of the set - which I did assemble, because you can't put something assembleable in front of me and expect me NOT to put it together - got shoved onto my high shelf of Random Anime Stuff.

The last thing I got was a very nice resin statuette thing of Yuffie. <3 OLDSCHOOL Yuffie, none of this Advent Children design style crap. X3 It came down to her or a hugeass figure of Canti, and I chose Yuffs because I love her to death and I already have a (much smaller) Canti toy anyway. And also because I might've been tripping out just a little on FF7 thanks to Crisis Core...

Ye gods, despite it all, there's still a frothing mad Squaresoft/FF7 fangirl locked deep within the darkest crevasses of my heart, somewhere.

I saw a Luke gashapon too (Tales of the Abyss!) but he was all they had from his set which made me pout just enough to not get him. >: I want my Jade. And Dist! <333 I don't even know if there is such a thing as a Dist gashapon in existence, but I still want one dammit!

I think I'll stop talking about the trip now cause I really need to get to bed here.

On to TODAY! *insert fanfare here*

TODAY I caved and bought a PSP. And promptly discovered that I had probably waited WAY too long to do so, as the Gamestop shelves were bare of any hint of either Darkstalkers or Guilty Gear Judgement. >: (Man, am I on a 2D fighter kick right now or what?)

It's an old style PSP, because I~~'m cheap~~ felt like it. (Aaddrick's is different, so I'm assuming it's a slim.) The guys at my local Gamestops are pretty awesome, and the dude who got the system out of the back picked out the one that looked to be in best condition for me. :3 Thing looks and runs like new; it's just got a smudge on the side of the screen that isn't wiping off and it's driving me mildly crazy...

Aaaaanyway. With it I picked up three games I wanted that I DID find: Crisis Core (duh), Every Extend Extra (I know, I've heard mixed things, just no one laugh), and Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology (you can't go wrong with a Tales game!). Haven't played 'em yet since I sacrificed my evening to charge/update/screw around with the settings of the PSP first, but expect blatherings about them soon.

I also picked up Baroque, because I forgot it was out and can always use more crazy-ass dungeon crawlers, especially if they're classically controlled and made by Atlus. :D I got the Wii version even though I was concerned the control scheme wouldn't work as well on the Wii as on the PS2. Basically, I did so because my PS2 collection is overflowing and I am constantly amused by how quickly my Wii collection is outpacing my 360 collection. Yes, I am amused by strange things.

Also! I saw a display in the store for some totally random 2D fighter anime thing with lots of chicks or maidens or something... NO IDEA. But it was completely out of nowhere and apparently releases in only a few days. I reserved it! (Again... by Atlus. You see that familiar red and blue logo, you buy it or you will NEVER SEE IT EVER AGAIN EVER except online where it will be selling for way too much.) Not to mention that animeish 2D fighters - NEW ONES - are not something you see very often AT ALL over here in the good ol' US. Especially new ones that don't appear to belong to any established series (or at least not any series that's been released here before). I am highly curious to see how it is. :3

So one task remains. That task is the Naming of the PSP! As, uh, maybe a few of you might know, I name stuff. Lots. And I've decided that it shall be TRADITION!!1 to name Sony systems after parasitic/symbiotic shadowlike characters who appear in games on any one of those systems. My PS2 is named Eddie, after the shadow beast from Guilty Gear.

For the PSP, I'm faced with the only other two characters I can think of who fit that retardedly specific description I just gave up there. XD; They are:

-Nrvnqsr Chaos from Melty Blood. (Yes, there were a few PS2 games.) He's less a shadow-thing and more a living mass of pure chaos, but hey, close enough. He would be this dude. And in case you were staring at that mass of consonants up there and wondering, it's phonetically spelled/pronounced "Nero." :P

-Evil King Stan from Okage: Shadow King. Stan is so hilariously awesome and I love him to death. Self-proclaimed evil demon king who winds up spending most of the game possessing the main character's shadow? Very yes. X3 Stan would be Mr. Tall, Dark, and Jack-O-Lantern'd looming goofily behind poor Ari here. Or at least that's his shadow form. I don't really have time right now to go digging up any hard-to-find pictures of his true form... most of what you'll get would be Japanese fanart anyway.

So eeeeeh tell me what you guys think. Whichever one I don't use for my PSP I'll probably wind up using for a PS3 when I eventually deign to get one, since I plan on keeping Eddie around just in case.

The only other VJ fan I know is never online when I am... I'm gonna forget all the things I want to talk about. I mean... the game has bloody seven freakin' fanfics on FF.net and I've read the three good ones already. There are no fansites. I know I like odd, obscure, underappreciated things, but you'd think when I put in effort to pursue the fandom of something I'd get even a tiny bit in return... *sigh*

So this morning I turn Ebony on and to my horror my laptop charger no longer works.

Wonderful timing for the Gaia Halloween event, huh?

Frantic, I whined and griped about it and then called Radio Shack, and they had an adapter that will work on my lovely Thinkpad T40. So I go down there, they test it, and lo, it worketh. The Io is happy.

Then the Io sees the clearanced Gamecube bonus pack sitting on the shelf. Io could not resist.

Yes, tis a Gamecube. A black GC, to be precise. It came with two controllers (one regular one and a seethrough, glowy Afterglow controller), a bonus arcade game collection (Sinistar!!!), two controller extension cords, a link cable (I CAN USE SONIC ADVANCE WITH SONIC ADVENTURE 2 NOW. WOOT.), and disc protector cases, which I will probably never use, but they're nice to have.

I chuckled when I took it out of the box and found that the area with the controller ports on the front was a rectangle of blank grey-white against the black.

I named it Scriabin. <3 And now to mortify it with Gorillaz stickers!!

Oh, and I just discovered that my new adapter/charger/whatever has a pretty shiny blue light on the brick. <3 <3 Peeerfect for Ebony. Hopefully this one will last me more than two or three years. ^^; (It better... since it's designed to work with like any chargeable electronic device in existence...)

Sooo... today I picked up the Megaman Dr Wily's Lab playset. As... er... prolly one of you knows (XD), the third generation of classic Megaman figures was pretty sucky. There was paint chipping like no tomorrow, and the proportions and articulation seemed somehow second-rate compared to the second generation toys, which were the best of all the generations thus far. Not to mention that the third generation seems to have done away with firing projectiles. >.>;

The playset, however, is GORGEOUS. Sure, the walls, floor, counter and ceiling are made of carboard, but it's slablike, thick, sturdy, durable, good-quality carboard that's probably not gonna break or warp anytime soon. It has electronics - one button on the floor that creates firing noises and a button on top of the elevator that turns on this freaky blue teleporty light! I LOVE it. BATTERIES INCLUDED, BABY! :D

Not to mention that it comes with a Dr Wily figure. And kibble that can actually have a use - spare weapons and robot parts, plus energy canisters. Kickass. The only thing that annoys me about it is that on the back of the box it pictures chibiish toys of Rockman, Blues, Gutsman, Elecman, and Cutman... WHAT ARE THESE TOYS AND WHERE CAN I GET THEM :gonk:

In other news... uh... my Tamagotchi had a baby and Gaia Online is in a state of like HOMG FEATURE EXPLOSION. The GCD is swamped with excitement and the Io is happy. X3

Yeah, so, my body likes to spring illness on me all at once in the middle of the night. I woke at some godawful hour of the morning with a hella sore throat and postnasal drip. I staggered up, found some decongestant, and took it.

Naturally, just as the stuff started to kick in, my alarm for work went off.

The sore throat was annoying, but that was about it, so I went to work. However, I got steadily worse during the day, finally resulting in wooziness, headaches, aching, and, as I discovered when I got home and took my temperature, a fever of 101.3, all on top of the sore throat and drip.

Needless to say, the Io is not a happy kitty. Especially considering that my normal body temperature is on the abnormally low side, usually hovering around 96.8 (as opposed to everyone else's 98.6).

Now, I don't want anyone to freak out. ._. As some of you know, there have been multiple cases of EEE, Eastern Equine Encephelitis (sp?), in my area recently. It's a bugger of a disease transmitted by mosquitos, and a couple people have already died from it.

HOWEVER. I am 99.9% certain that I have not been bitten. Trust me, I pick at my skin, which is a really freakin' bad habit, but it means that I know every inch of it. Mosquito bites are big, itchy, annoying hard things that won't leave me alone, and I have nothing of the sort. So we're guessing it's just some normal flu bug thing that I probably picked up at work. Working at a pharmacy will do that to ya. It might be strep throat, so if the sore throat doesn't go away soon we'll look into that. Otherwise, things seem good for recovery.

I have an excellent immune system peoples, so no one is to worry, a'ight? ^_^

In other news, I picked up a wrist support brace glove thing today. My wrist has been complaining during long sessions of Photoshop and Doom, so I figure I'd better take precautions. >.>

Uhhhhhhm, I need a bumper sticker that says "I'd rather be at Gaia Online." >.> And an OMG hat. Cause OMG is awesome <3

Okay, so something completely out of the ordinary happened on Gaia yesterday.

Him: o.o; Oh, uh, I'm sorry. I normally take it out on the n00bs and idiots, but I've had a really fuggin' bad day. You can go ahead and call me an ass if you think that's what I am, but I didn't mean to come off like that.

Me: HOLY SHIT you apologized! O.O; Uhm, thanks! And I'm sorry too... just try not to needlessly insult Pokemon in the threads made by/for the fans of it when I'm around, kay? ^^; That's a guaranteed way to make an enemy out of me.

OKAY. Seriously folks, how often does some random jerkass on an enormous forum community apologize for being an ass and actually turn out to be pretty cool?

Once in a lifetime. That's how often. o.o I looked up some of his recent posts too, and he does seem to be a pretty nice guy, if entirely zero-tolerance when it comes to noobishness and idiocy. XD He's a DDR nut too... why do I keep winding up knowing tons of them? >.>;

Okay. Secondary random rant time.

Know what really cheeses me off? Ice cream.

Yeah, you heard me. Ice cream.

Why, you ask? Well, first of all, I prefer soft serve to regular ice cream. I ask you: How many flavors of soft serve have you seen? That's right: a whopping grand total of three. Chocolate, vanilla, and if you're REALLY lucky, strawberry.

I may point out now that I cannot STAND chocolate. This rather limits my options.

I will eat hard ice cream if I see an interesting flavor, and I do love floats. However, let me elaborate a bit.

My favorite kind of float is a vanilla ice cream/cream soda float. I am in LOVE with cream soda. It's the only kind of soda that I REALLY like. But how many ice cream places do you suppose carry the nigh-extinct stuff? Not very. >.>; The Chocolate Moose around here has AMAZING homemade cream soda that they use in their floats, but Paul, the owner of the store, is just a biiiiit unpredictable and prone to closing the store if he doesn't feel like dealing with it. >_< And the other ice cream place has such a wonderful selection: Coke, Pepsi, root beer, and Sprite, pretty much. I vehemently dislike Coke, Pepsi, and Root Beer. Sprite, however, is a citrus soda and not all that great in a float. >_O

On to interesting ice cream flavors. I swear to god, whenever I walk into that place they are ALWAYS out of ANYTHING I might want to try. Coconut ice cream? Hey, I love coconut! ...they're out. Strawberry cheesecake? Yum! Out. Cake batter? Could that possibly be something similar to Cookie Dough that does NOT involve annoying chocolate chunks (a pet peeve of mine)? Nope, sorry, they're OUT. And then my parents, in an attempt to console me, say that it was probably chocolate cake batter anyway.

WTF. OKAY, WHO out there thinks CHOCOLATE when they hear "cake batter?" PLEASE tell me this is not just me. CAKE is plain white cake. CHOCOLATE CAKE is CHOCOLATE CAKE and ought to be labelled as such. DOES NOBODY realize that there are people like me out there that DO NOT LIKE CHOCOLATE?? I feel rather discriminated against here! Maybe it's stupid, but I want my rights as a chocolate hater/vanilla lover, dammit! It's the same reason why I get so pissed off when the desert menu at a restaurant has nothing that does not involve chocolate!

*rantrantrantraverantfume* AND IT WOULD NOT KILL SOMEONE TO INVENT A COOKIE DOUGH ICE CREAM WITHOUT CHOCOLATE CHUNKS IN IT!! I DON'T SEEM TO RECALL PLAIN OLD COOKIE DOUGH REQUIRING CHOCOLATE!!

Also no place around here sells smoothies. You would think an ice cream place would also have smoothies or icees or slurpees or freezys or SOMEthing, but nooooooo... here I am, addicted to smoothies, and I can't even get my traditional September 1st one without trekking to the most bizarre, unlikely and inconvenient of places! >_< And even then nobody's got a simple pina colada smoothie anymore!

In real life news: I'm not gonna go back to school for the moment, guys. I think it's been thoroughly and redundantly proven that my concentration is capable of being everywhere BUT school right now, and every fiber of my being is screaming at me to get out into the world on my own already anyway. So here's the deal.

-Starting to work full-time, looks like this isn't going to be a problem. If all goes well it means I get insurance and stuff too, so yay.

-Looking into getting my own car and an apartment once I have the money. So to all my RL friends... if any of you've had similar thoughts, having a roommate is way cheaper than going solo, and I'm open for suggestions. :D Just as long as you don't mind toys everywhere... XD;;

Projects for later: Get a bloody PC, get a DVD player (Ebony doesn't like DVDs anymore ._.), get MORE SHELVES, get own scanner and avoid the same kind we have now at all costs...
